When you see the term ‘engineered foam’ you will probably have some idea of what this means, but when and where would this type of foam be used? The fact is that engineered foam is used in many different forms, and these are just a few examples of how foam suppliers use sophisticated tools to create these products.
If you have ever been present at a sporting event where the fans wear those huge oversized hands, then this is a perfect example of how engineered foam is used to make this particular product. Leaving the fun side alone, there are many more examples of how this product is used. The protective vests worn by police officers and others who are in the front line and may face danger will contain this material, as well as other materials which will help protect them from stabbing incidents.
Motorcycle and cycle helmets will also contain foam which has been engineered by foam rubber suppliers, and if you sit behind the wheel of your car you can be assured that you are surrounded by it. In short, this type of material is everywhere around you, but the chances are you will never be aware of it.
Here at Technical Foam Services we specialise in all kinds of foam products, so whatever your needs are – whether you want those Big Hands for a sporting event, or you are involved in the manufacture of protective equipment – we will be able to help you.

If there is one group of people who are thankful for the development of confor foams, it is cyclists. The reason for this is that this type of foam is now used in the seating area of the shorts cyclists wear, which helps to make life a little more comfortable as they cover up to 100 miles or more on their training rides.
All cyclists, from the old chap who likes to potter around the lanes on his bike right up to the top racers who take part in the Tour de France have one thing in common. They like to be comfortable when they are sitting on their saddles for hours at a time, and before foam manufacturers developed confor foams, the insert in the seat of cycling shorts was made from chamois leather.
Despite this sounding unfeasible, this is true, and while this was comfortable enough when the shorts were new, it wasn’t long before the chamois took on the consistency of a piece of wood. The chamois had to be treated with lanolin after every wash if there was to be any chance of it remaining soft, but no matter how much time was spent doing this, the leather would eventually turn hard.
Clearly, this was unacceptable, and the manufacturers of cycling clothing began to look at flexible foams, and it was in the early nineties that cofor foams began to be used in cycling shorts as well as in the gloves which cyclists wear.

If you are unfortunate enough to have suffered back or neck pain, you will more then likely have discovered how memory foam mattresses and pillows can help you. Millions of people all over the world have found relief from back pain thanks to this product which, like many everyday items we use now, began life as part of the NASA Space programme.
In the late seventies NASA scientists were looking at various materials which could be used to make life a little more comfortable for the astronauts taking part in space exploration. Having tried many different products they came up with the idea of foam products which would mould to the shape of the person sitting on it, and from this basic idea to make things a little easier for astronauts more than forty years ago, we now have memory foam in many different forms. You may not even be aware that the item you are using everyday has memory foam inside it, but that keyboard support you use, or the motorcycle helmet you wear will both contain this product.
Here at Technical Foam Services we are constantly looking at ways in which to develop not only the uses of memory foam, but other types of engineered foam. Whatever your needs are when it comes to foam products, we will be able to help you achieve them. Have a look at the rest of our website and see for yourself the many products we produce for companies all over the world.

If you are a regular visitor to our website, you’ll already be aware of the vast range of foam products that we stock, but have you considered the benefits of foam inserts?
Foam inserts are flexible, durable products that are ideal for protecting valuable delicate items, such porcelain, electronic equipment, and jewellery. Packaging materials like these are cut or moulded to size, so they fit in a case or box, and in some cases mould around the goods.
We are a UK foam company and exporter that can supply two different types of foam inserts: If you are looking for an insert that moulds securely around a product, then die-cut foam will be an ideal choice. We can customise the insert to suit many different shapes/sizes of products. We also offer what is called case insert foam. This type of insert has a dual function, both protecting a product, and acting as a suitable display background for items like watches and jewellery. This type of foam traditionally comes in black or grey, although we can also bond it to fabric foam to offer a range of colours. Search for polyurethane or polyethylene and you’ll be able to find out more about the types of foams we use for case inserts.
Foam inserts are just one chapter in our story though. We use technology and skilled/knowledgeable staff to produce foam packaging, novelty sponges, components for audio and car parts, and many other items. Please look around to find out more.

As one of the leading foam manufacturers in the UK, we recognise not just the importance of having a great product, but getting the packaging right as well. Having the right packaging serves many different functions. It not only helps attract customer attention, but offers protection, which in turn enables safe transportation and storage.
We stock several different types of foam products that are suitable for packaging, which are either PE (polyethylene foams) or PU (polyurethane). Both types of foam come in a range of densities and colours, so you should choose the right type for your products.
PE foams come under the umbrella of closed cell foams, and are known for their strength. Materials such as plastazote and jiffy cell, which make up PE foams, are ideal packaging for fragile goods, where a high level of protection is needed. This could be good for electronic equipment or porcelain.
PU Foams are the more flexible choice for packaging, and you can order from a wide choice of grades and densities. We stock affordable chip foam, which is essentially recycled scraps of PU foam, and egg crate polyether foam. This is cut in an overlapping shape using a customised machine. The end result is very effective packaging material.
We did promise you a complete package, so along with our knowledge and equipment, you can also customise many of our foam products, and we have links with a carton supplier. There’s more to Technical Foam Services than meets the eye.

Although many of us are disgruntled when faced with cleaning jobs, it’s an inevitable part of life. We use our technical knowledge, and links to all the latest product developments, to manufacture and supply a wide variety of cleaning sponges, to make your lives easier.
We use synthetic foam in some of our sponges, such as sponge pore foam. This type of foam is known for its softness, and is ideal for gentle cleansing. There are various grades of sponge available to suit different tasks, and a vast range of colours. You may also be looking for a novelty bath sponge, and we can deliver. We can shape sponge pore foam in to everything from a whale to a pineapple, thanks to our in-house engineers and their nifty custom tooling.
Cellulose sponges are also very popular, and useful for household cleaning. Their super absorbency means you can use them for many intense cleaning tasks. We can advertise your brands on them as well. This type of sponge isn’t really suitable for bathing, so we’re covering all our bases and offering a range of natural sponges too.
These natural sponge products are soft to the skin, and are becoming ever popular thanks to their durability, mould and bacteria inhibitors, and the fact that they are chemical free. They’re also harvested responsibly, which adds to their environmental credentials. To find out more about our responsible trading policy, natural products, or other high quality sponges, please browse the website or get in touch.
