Turn Down the Volume with Acoustic Foam

December 17th, 2011

Foam is ideal for use in the music industry because of its excellent noise absorption properties. Acoustic foams are made from either melamine or PU foams, because these have an open-cell structure which traps waves and consequently reduces the level of noise. Nevertheless, levels of sound absorption vary depending on how the foam is manufactured. We believe as an experienced foam producer, that getting the ideal foam product requires a bespoke understanding of your needs, followed by choosing the optimum grade and then the best processes and conversion.

Acoustic foam can have two purposes when it comes to noise reduction. One use is obviously through sound proofing – preventing the sound from escaping and disturbing others. This is ideal for any room used for band practice or housing loud machinery, but has also more recently been found in the development of noise-reduction headphones. The second purpose is the one required for recording studios, where its use is not about preventing noise from escaping, but rather stopping external noises coming in. PU foams or melamine panels are used to neutralise any additional sounds in the room, to stop them from being picked up on the recording.

As a leading foam producer, we can provide acoustic foam in straight cut sheets, egg box panels, and pyramid profiled panels. We always look at each individual and supply bespoke products directly to suit your needs. All our products meet with fire-retardancy standards and regulations and we can also provide additional coatings such as heat reflecting coatings.

Memory foam cut to your preference

December 14th, 2011

Ever since it went on sale to the general public after being developed by NASA, memory foam has been a bit hit – mostly in the bedding and mattress industry. Of course, if you were to get memory foam cut to size, you could get it to fir your particular bed exactly, ensuring a great night’s sleep, and rest for those of us who suffer from joint pain or other afflictions that a normal mattress may aggravate.

An essential thing to remember is that memory foam now has many other applications – in fact you could probably think of a lot more if you knew that it could be machined to any size or shape. For example, if you have ski goggles that chafe you, or heavy duty earphones for heavy tool work – why not get some memory foam cut to line them? Something that you wear a lot for safety that is bulky and uncomfortable – a crash helmet, for example, could also have a foam lining that can be cut to size.

Memory foam is so much better than regular foam when used against the body because it retains your body heat and moulds to your shape in seconds – but once you lose contact with the foam, it bounces back to its original shape. If you loaned your crash helmet to your partner, for example, it would then fit against his or her head as if it was theirs.

These are just a couple of applications for memory foam, but when you can have it cut to size by your favourite uk foam company, then the possibilities are limitless.

Getting What You Want, But Also What You Need

December 11th, 2011

Because foam is used in so much of our everyday lives and can probably be found in every room in your house, it is important that any products made from it are made from fire-retardant foam. For anyone creating a foam product, they will also need to be aware that many products require fire retardancy as part of essential health and safety regulations.

Fire-retardant properties are essential for any foams used in automobiles or in building construction. As expert suppliers and manufacturers of foam products, we make sure that all our products meet the required standards and regulations, including Class O fire-retardancy standards. Our products include Pyrosorb and Fireseal PU foams and Class O rated Basotect melamine foam goods, which are used in the construction industry for ceiling tiles, wall panels, pipe lagging and in flooring, among many other things.

Using our PU foams and melamine Class O foams will offer you fire-retardancy through self-extinguishing properties. In case of fire, they will also neither melt nor drip. Depending on the type and grade of foam used, you will also find grades that are resistant to oil, grease, detergent and chemicals, as well as being environmentally-friendly through being non-toxic and CFC and HCFC free.

The products we create are a result of our unique partnership with you, to make sure you get exactly what you want but also what you need to have the best product which also meets the necessary regulations. You can be sure that everything we create is bespoke to you.

Getting the Right PU Foam Product

December 9th, 2011

PU foams have a variety of uses in modern everyday life, most notably in sofa and chair cushions and mattress products. However, its uses extend far beyond this sector, with this foam available in thousands of different grades and materials. Flexible PU foams are the kind most commonly used for bedding and upholstery products, where the foam is cut into the required shape from blocks, the reason being because it recovers its original shape after compression from being sat or lain on.

Semi-flexible PU foam is used for car seats (including arm and headrests) and rigid PU foam is used widely in construction, often instead of wood. PU foam is now also available in spray form, which is commonly used for insulating and as a waterproof roofing material. As a spray, it is extremely popular as a building material because it is environmentally friendly and does not emit harmful chemicals. Nevertheless, spaces where it is used must be properly ventilated.

Because of the huge range of variants of this product and its enormous versatility and possibilities, identifying the exact kind you need for your product or use can be difficult. As an expert foam producer and supplier, we can advise you on the exact type and grade of PU foam you need. We can also help to develop your product idea and/or manufacture your products for you. You tell us what you need and what you want and we will work together with you to create the ideal product for your needs.

Everyday Uses of PU

December 6th, 2011

We benefit from polyurethane foam products all day, every day without even realising it. From waking up on a foam mattress, to sitting on foam chairs and sofas, to driving in a car while surrounded by PU foams, this is a product we now take for granted. However, PU foams also have a number of other uses that the everyday consumer might not be aware of.

Many of our everyday household items are made from foam products, including children’s cuddly toys, clothing items (particularly bras), washing up and cleaning sponges, and cushions. The buildings that we live, work and shop in also use PU foam in their construction, however. It is commonly used as an insulator and even as part of the building materials because of its waterproof and durable properties.

PU foam comes in two forms, polyether and polyester. Each of these two forms has different properties, and therefore different uses. Polyester foams have better performance properties such as being stronger and more resistant to extreme temperatures. Consequently, they are used for specific products such as sponges and bathroom wipes (because they are more absorbent) and for acoustic and audio products, such as in noise reduction products.

Polyether foam is more commonly used for products which require fungicide resistance, such as in water filters, because it has stronger properties in this area. This is also the kind of foam used for upholstery, bedding and car seats, rests and trimming. We can advise you on the best kind of PU foam for your needs.

The Possibilities of Memory Foam

December 3rd, 2011

Memory foam is now a product that is most commonly associated with mattresses and pillows because of the comfort it offers. It is ideal for this purpose because it reacts to the body’s heat, quickly softening and moulding itself to the body’s shape, and then returning to its original shape once the heat and pressure have been removed.

Sometimes known as visco memory foam because of its ‘visco-elastic’ properties, it was first developed by NASA in 1966 and then launched commercially in the 1990, although at first it was too expensive for average homeowners to buy. More recently, it has become cheaper to manufacture and so bedding products can now commonly be found in many homes.

As foam manufacturers, however, we have realised the greater potential for memory foam, which expands beyond the successful mattress and pillow market. Its unique properties can help to create other innovative products such as wrist supports for laptop and keyboard users, footwear insoles and stress relief toys. As well as bedding, other kinds of support cushions can be created, such as for lumbar support or chair base seating cushions.

With Christmas just around the corner, now’s the time to start thinking about what unique products you could come up with. Our range of visco memory foam materials and products includes over 20 different densities. The density affects the comfort of the product, so you should think about the requirements of your product idea. We will then convert the foam into whatever shape or style you need for you idea.

What to Consider when Looking for Quality Foam Suppliers

November 30th, 2011

There are a number of different aspects that you need to consider when looking to source foam from a supplier. Indeed, not all suppliers are created equal; therefore it is important that you carry out a little research to ensure the company you choose will deliver the results you expect.

High-quality materials
It goes without saying that the quality of a product is only as good as the quality of the materials used in its manufacture. Therefore it is absolutely essential that you deal only with suppliers that insist on using high-quality materials.

Bespoke products
There’s little advantage to be gained from doing business with a supplier who can only offer standard foam products. Suppliers who provide bespoke services are far more advantageous as they can create products to suit your own particular needs.

Wide selection
The type of foams you will need for your business is likely to change every now and then. Therefore, if you choose a supplier that only has a very limited selection, chances are you will end up having to find an alternative supplier at some point down the line. However, initially sourcing your foams from a supplier that has many different types and grades of foam available will ensure you’ll never need to look elsewhere again.

So, if you want to do business with a UK foam company that can deliver bespoke results with a variety of quality materials, look no further than us here at Technical Foam Services.

The Protective Qualities of PE Foams in Sport

November 27th, 2011

There are many sports these days that are potentially dangerous to those who participate in them. Indeed, any sport that exposes participants to speed and impact is likely to present instances where injury is a very real threat. Fortunately, the provision of appropriate personal protective equipment such as helmets, pads and body plates can help to minimise the effects of any such injuries.

Naturally, participants in most sports are unlikely to wear protective gear that is heavy and cumbersome as this will only help to impair their performance. Therefore it is important that protective sports gear is lightweight, comfortable and unassuming.

Thankfully, polyethylene (PE) foams are the perfect solution as they posses all of these qualities in abundance and therefore provide sports participants with all of the protective benefits they might need. Indeed, the major advantage of PE foams is that they are closed cell foams and therefore do not collapse and shrink under pressure like softer open cell foams. This means that they retain their integral cushioning and buoyancy qualities whilst remaining lightweight and completely flexible at all times. The temperature-resistant qualities of PE foams also ensure that sports participants do not suffer from any discomfort caused by excessive heat.

Quite simply, PE closed cell foams are perfect for protective sports applications such as helmet linings and body pads because they offer comprehensive protection without impeding performance in any way.

Having Fun with Foam

November 24th, 2011

Foam is well known for being one of the most versatile materials around. Indeed, it is available in many different types and grades that can be used for applications as diverse as protecting valuable products in transit to delivering hygienic medical care to hospital patients.

However, as well as all these serious applications, foam can also be used for good old-fashioned fun.

Indeed, because foam is so lightweight, it can be easily shaped and cut to create a wide range of fun shapes. In addition, its sponginess and flexibility make it very safe for children of all ages to play around with. In fact, practically most types of foam-based toys are so harmless that they cannot be used to hurt anyone (even if that might be the aim).

Foam products make for great children’s toys as they are bright, fun and completely safe. Let’s face it; all kids (and sometimes even grown-ups) love having mock battles with foam-based floppy swords and gladiator-style batons. In truth, making fun products like these really is very easy to do as they can be manufactured so very quickly and easily from simple foam sheets. This means that as well as floppy swords, gladiator batons, indoor footballs and stringy noodles; foam can also be used to make practically any kind of fun object that your imagination can think of!

If you’re looking to create foam-based products that are made with fun in mind, look no further than us here at Technical Foam Services.

Why Foam is the Perfect Buoyancy Aid Material for High Impact Water Sports

November 21st, 2011

Buoyancy aids are incredibly important for people who participate in high-impact water sports such as water skiing and jet skiing. Indeed, should a participant injure themselves in the water, a decent buoyancy aid could be the only thing that stops them from drowning.

Inflatable & foam-based aids
Even though inflatable aids are probably the most well-known form of buoyancy aid, they are a far from ideal solution for high-impact water sports as they are relatively easy to puncture. In such situations, foam products are a much better choice as they are made from closed cell foams. These foams are perfectly suited to water-borne activities as they contain cells which are hermetically closed off and thereby prevent water from entering and flooding the material structure.

Fragility & robustness
Although polystyrene is perhaps the most well-known closed-cell foam used in buoyancy aids, its relative fragility means it is more likely to break when faced with a high-impact fall from a water craft or skis. Instead, the best closed-cell option for high-impact buoyancy aids is that of polyethylene, or ‘PE’ foams. PE foams really are the ideal material for high-impact water sports buoyancy aids as they are very robust, come in a wide range of densities and are not damaged by long-term exposure to water.
