If you are of a certain age, you will probably have memories of sleepless nights spent tossing and turning on a mattress which was incredibly uninviting.
The mattress on the bed I slept in when I was a kid seemed to have been designed to give you the most uncomfortable night possible. Memory foam was developed by NASA in the late sixties, as their scientists looked for the most suitable material for the astronauts beds and other equipment in the Apollo capsules. When they moved into the mainstream, memory foam was found to be especially beneficial to people who suffer from bad backs and other spinal problems, as they mould to the user’s body shape which allows a more comfortable night’s sleep.
