Memory foam
A different approach to memory foam
Thanks to hugely successful marketing campaigns by well-known companies, memory foam is a term that is now recognised the world over due to its widespread use in mattresses and pillows, but at Technical Foam Services we are harnessing these properties in new applications beyond the furnishing sector.
As an engineering-focused company, at Technical Foam Services we concentrate on more unique, industry-specific applications where these versatile and high performance visco-elastic foams can be adopted.
The development of memory foam
Memory foam is a sophisticated product that consistently recovers its original shape following compression.
Developed by NASA under the brand name Confor foam in the 1980s, it was then launched into the wider market in the 1990s, when it was known as visco-elastic foam. It is now widely recognised as memory foam, which is primarily used in mattresses and cushions.
However, while many companies produce memory foam furnishings and bedding materials, the scope for the application of memory foam stretches far beyond this one limited area, and this is where Technical Foam Services' expertise comes to the fore.
As a result, rather than merely producing memory foam products that are already widely available, at Technical Foam Services we focus on developing and manufacturing products that go beyond more "standard" goods.
Harnessing consistent properties
What is unique about memory foam is its ability to consistently recover its shape after compression, so that it will return to its original form once the force is removed. This not only provides a superior level of comfort and cushioning, it also provides impact protection and strength, all of which are vital elements in a multitude of products that go far beyond furnishings and bed products.
As a result, at Technical Foam Services, we have developed and produced numerous new and exciting memory foam applications and products for our customers that harness these unique properties in a wider range of industry-specific sectors - all of which benefit from a foam that consistently recovers its original shape following compression. Examples of these include:
- Computer keyboard supports
- Helmet linings
- Therapeutic pillows
- Stress relief toys
What is Memory Foam?
We believe that the scope for new products manufactured from memory foam is immense and the possibilities are almost endless.
We can now supply memory foam materials and products in excess of 20 different densities and rigidity levels, ranging from soft to extremely hard, as well as flame retardant versions, to allow the widest field of product design imaginable.
Furthermore, with our outstanding technical and engineering capacity, we are able to convert memory foam sheets and blocks and manufacture foam products in a multitude of shapes and styles including 3D forms, egg box profiling, and even laminated to other foam types, making the possibilities almost limitless.
With your ideas and our technical expertise and conversion capabilities, the sky is the limit for the development of new, innovative memory foam applications, which is why we always welcome enquiries from designers who are considering using memory foam in a new product.
First devised by NASA scientists, memory foams (also known as confor foams) are made from polyurethane with extra chemicals to boost its Viscosity and density. Memory foam reacts to human body heat, meaning it can conform to a body's shape in minutes. After compression, it will recover its shape.
While most people think of mattresses when they think of this material, memory foam can also be used in a wide range of other applications, from helmet lining to ski goggles.
Today, memory foam suppliers make more than 20 different types and densities of confor foams, ranging from being almost rigid, to extremely soft.
Equally, memory foam suppliers can now cut memory foam into 3D shapes; laminate it to all other kinds of foams, and much more. The range of possibilities on offer is almost endless.
Slow Recovery Foams
Many memory foam suppliers produce Visco memory foam - also known as slow recovery foams, which reassume their shape slowly after the object has been removed from them. Slow recovery foams can absorb shock well, and react to body and environmental temperatures. Visco memory foam is especially popular in the bedding and medical industries, since these confor foams closely mould themselves to the shape of the human body, and Visco memory foam will also distribute pressure efficiently over the whole surface.
Visco memory foam technology is progressing all the time, so there are ever more options for memory foam suppliers to choose from. And these confor foams are taking hold in an increasing variety of applications, from medical to bedding to technical.
About Technical Foam Services Ltd
In a competitive marketplace, at Technical Foam Services we are widely recognised as one of the UK's leading memory foam suppliers. We offer outstanding technical expertise and focus strongly on innovation, engineering and are very customer-driven. In fact, few other memory foam suppliers share our commitment to customer satisfaction - many of our clients have been with us for 10 years or more.
Based in Corby, Northamptonshire, right in the heart of England, we have more than 300 grades of material in stock, including a wide range of confor foams and different kinds of slow recovery foams.
While we don't make mattresses or cushions using memory foam or Visco memory foam, we're involved in industrial applications of confor foams where a foam will recover its original thickness after regular compression.
Visit our website to see the different kinds of memory foam and Visco memory foam we produce as part of our full-scale manufacturing operation.
We have an extensive engineering department, and are the only UK-based producer of confor foams who can build new machines tailor-made to suit new products.
At the same time, we at Technical Foam Services also have many different types of processes to convert our materials, from egg-box profile cutting for your slow recovery foams to thermo-moulding.
Don't leave your choice of slow recovery foams or other products to chance. Browse our website today and contact us to find out more.
