Reticulated foam cone
by Duncan Geddes
Our Engineering Department are constantly being challenged. A couple of weeks ago we received an enquiry for open-cell filtration foam, to be shaped into a cone with a central hole. The product is being used as a water filter, so after discussions with the client we recommended they use 45ppi Blue polyether reticulated foam. The dimensions of the cone are 150mm long, with a base diameter of 80mm tapering up to a 25mm diameter at the top. The central hole is 6mm diameter, going 125mm down the length from the base.
The initial order is for 1,000 units, thereafter the client will order in batches of 5,000.
We quickly agreed pricing, meeting the clients target price per unit. They also agreed to pay £500 to cover the cost of the bespoke tooling. This has now been set up, samples have been submitted and approved, all within two weeks of receiving the enquiry. Full production of the first order has now commenced!
This project is a true representation of our foam engineering skills, and ability to provide bespoke foam components within a short period, all at a commercial acceptable price.
